Shaw Nature Reserve: Native Seed Collection #2


Description: Volunteers will spend a portion of their day collecting native seed that is used for onsite restoration activities. There will be an introduction upon arrival, followed by a hike to areas with specific native species. Buckets and scissors will be provided. Included in the volunteer opportunity will be a discussion of the restoration activities that occur at Shaw Nature Reserve. Plus, volunteers will have a chance to meet a restoration technician, hear their story and how they obtained their current position.

Transportation Info: Volunteers are required to provide transportation to project, carpooling is recommended.

Special Directions: Volunteers will come to the Visitor Center entrance, state they're here with Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµAPPReaches Out, receive a free gate token to enter, and then proceed to the Trail House parking lot. Carpooling is preferred but not required. The Volunteer Supervisor, Calvin will meet volunteers at the Trail House parking lot.

Special Instructions: All work occurs off trail. Participants will be working in tallgrass prairie and woodlands. Participants should wear long pants, hiking shoes or boots, if possible, bug spray, sunscreen, water bottles, and their lunches if they wish to eat onsite after the work project. No not wear sandals or shorts.
