Barnes-Jewish Hospital: OT Fall prevention

Description: THIS PROJECT IS FOR 2ND & 3RD YEAR OT STUDENTS ONLY! Volunteers will provide fall prevention screenings on individuals from the community, mainly older adults. The screenings run by OT are grip strength (dynamometer) and cognition (Short Blessed Test = 6-item cognitive screen). Volunteers will receive a brief training/review of both and will be scheduled for one of two shifts (8-11am & 11am-2pm; volunteer input considered when scheduling). The event runs from 8:30-1:30 and volunteers helping with set-up or tear-down depending on their shift. Students are encouraged to observe other disciplines that are part of the event (pharmacologists, PTs, ophthalmologists, nursing, etc.). They will have opportunities to network with OTs/COTAs who work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and student volunteers from other programs/schools.
